Strengthening Social Capital through Computer-mediated Community Participation
My master's project was to build an exclusive online professional and social networking community for The National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications' (NAMIC) Executive Leadership Development Program's (ELDP) members.
The strategy for the project was to first survey and then analyze survey findings of the ELDP membership base to reveal their online habits and motivations, and then perform usability testing on a prototype of the site using target audience members. Web 2.0 applications research and software selection followed, with a competitive analysis of applications used in the virtual community. The final steps involved the design, page development and back-end web programming for the community pages and infrastructure.
